Watdamnak House

After a day at Angkor Wat, it was lovely to unwind by the pool among the banana trees. Wat Damnak House is a cozy, pleasant place, and there’s a good breakfast spot nearby as well as other restaurants with very tasty food.

The pool stays wonderfully cool, and the room air conditioning works really well. There are lots of places to eat nearby, and the night market is a quick walk away. The cleaning staff were lovely, and laundry was done fast. The on-site massage costs extra, but it’s worth it if you’d rather not walk a block or so to find one elsewhere.

The location is handy, just across the river from the market areas. There are plenty of good restaurants, small shops, convenience stores, cheap laundry services, and eager tuk tuk drivers nearby. We were meeting Khmer family at a nearby hotel, so the price may have felt a bit high for us. The Khmer Grill restaurant and nearby spas were enjoyable for dinner and a massage. The place has six or seven bedrooms, most a little tight around the double beds. There’s a large glass-topped table in the open ground-floor area, but the loose gravel floor gets into the rooms. An efficient maid serviced the place daily. Some basic maintenance is needed: loose taps and toilet seats, a leaking basin fitting that got a temporary repair while we were there, and a difficult front gate lock.

A clean, lovely place with an entirely open-air layout. The beds have mosquito netting and the rooms have A/C.
