Days Hotel by Wyndham Seoul Myeongdong

The staff were really nice, and we had a pleasant stay. The rooms aren’t large, but they’re clean and modern. For the price, the location is one of the best, with Myeogdong shopping St right behind the hotel and a convenience store next door. It’s a small hotel with limited rooms, so book early if you can. The price was reasonable too. My main gripe was the elevators. There are only two, and they were very slow. We usually had to pass several floors before reaching ours or the lobby.

The hotel is right by Myeongdong shopping street, with walkable access to the metro and airport bus. For SGD 180 a night, those transport links and the location were the only good parts for me. I won’t return. I’d rather stay in Chungmuro, one stop from Myeongdong, where there are nicer hotels for a similar price. The concierge didn’t make us feel welcome. I had to remind him about check-in, and when I said I wanted to check in, he just stared blankly. I arrived before 3 PM and left my luggage with him, but when I returned at check-in and showed the luggage ticket, the staff member seemed dazed again and didn’t give it back. I was there in mid-October, when it wasn’t cold, but the air conditioning wasn’t available at night. I set it to 21°C, but it kept switching to a higher temperature and made the room uncomfortably warm. The floor hadn’t been vacuumed, with crumbs and bits of paper scattered around. The water flask looked old and dirty, so I couldn’t use it, though they did provide complimentary bottled water daily. The room was much smaller than the size listed on travel websites like Agoda.

The staff were great, and the hotel is in a handy spot, within 500m of Myeongdong station, right by the Myeongdong Street tourist area. Still, it wasn’t worth it for me, and I’d rate it 2/5. The air conditioning kept turning off automatically. I went to reception twice, and although they switched it back on the first time, it shut off again after 15 minutes. They said it was an automatic system. Breakfast had only three main choices, wasn’t a buffet, and came with a limited selection of drinks. The toilet flush was broken and caused flooding, so we had to call staff up to fix it at midnight. Some nights the room was also very noisy while we were trying to sleep.

The location is perfect, at the edge of busy Myeongdong, next to Myeongdong subway station. Isaac toast is right across the street, with plenty of good restaurants, a couple of large Olive Young shops, a pharmacy, Starbucks and other coffee places nearby. The rooms are clean and roomy enough for two suitcases, and breakfast was nice on days we didn’t feel like going to the nearby croissant cafe. The staff weren’t very welcoming or helpful. If you want to check in before 15.00, be ready to pay 11000 KRW for each hour. A 10am check-in would cost 55000 KRW.
