The quiet neighborhood was a big plus for me. I don’t enjoy noise, and after busy days in the city it was lovely to come back to a peaceful area. Changdeokgung Palace is about a minute away on foot, and from there I walked to Bukchon Hanok Village and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. Gwangjang Market is around a seven-minute walk away, too. There are bus stops nearby, plus Olive Young, convenience stores, restaurants, cafés, and a café in the hotel. It was easy to get around. This was my first visit to Seoul, and I’d been nervous about choosing somewhere to stay. I’d booked another hotel at first, then switched to Orakai Daehakro Hotel at the last minute. I’m glad I did. I’ve already booked it again for September without considering anywhere else. My room had lots of sunlight, and I could see Seoul Tower from the window. It was spacious and comfortable, with towels, bedding, bathrobes, slippers, tea, and more. The bed was crisp and very comfortable. There were a few signs of previous use, but they didn’t affect my stay. I suspect some guests could be more careful with their suitcases. Housekeeping did a great job and would offer to replace things, always checking if I needed anything. Everyone on staff was polite and helpful. They made it easy to ask questions, and they looked after my luggage before check-in. There was even a cute photo booth in the hotel. I came away with only good impressions.

The sauna wasn’t working during our stay, and the sensor light was annoying because it switched on at night and woke us. Some screening between the bed and the bath and sink area would’ve helped. There was no air conditioning in May, though the hotel did provide a fan. The room was a good size. We had twin beds and enough space to open all four of our suitcases, and the beds were large and comfortable. The location was convenient for nearby markets without being right in the middle of them. Several convenience stores were close, and the walk to the subway took about ten minutes over easy, flat ground. There’s a café and restaurant on site. Staff were friendly, and the lobby had a currency exchange machine where we could also get a WOWPASS. Bottled water and some toiletries were provided, with toiletries replenished daily. Bring your own toothbrush.

The service was the standout. When we arrived at night, my partner realized she’d left her phone in the taxi. The receptionist tracked it down within five minutes of us reaching our room. The rooms were clean and comfortable, though not very large. We visited in late November and, for some reason, the air conditioning ran around the clock and we couldn’t switch it off. The nearest subway station is a ten-minute walk away, but the hotel is well placed for the main sights in central Seoul.

Getting to the train network takes a bit longer, but frequent bus services make it easy to reach many popular places around Seoul. We had an excellent stay at Orakai Daehakro Hotel. The room was clean and spacious, the amenities felt new and were well looked after, and housekeeping kept everything spotless each day.

It’s not within walking distance of Seoul city centre, and the hotel is farther out than the centre. Still, the place was super clean and the gym was amazing. The spa was closed for renovation while I was there. Even so, I’d highly recommend staying here.
