Hipzy Guesthouse

A nice, quiet little place. I stayed for two nights during a short visit to South Korea last week.

The only real plus was the location, close to the city center and major sights. The stay itself was awful. We booked three separate beds but got one single and one queen, and the room was tiny with barely any space for bags. It smelled musty, and the air conditioner was broken or frozen, then started dripping as soon as we turned it on. There was no heat, and the sheets were thin and too small for two people. The mattresses were very hard, and all were covered with bed bug bags. We weren’t bitten, but keep an eye out if you still decide to stay. The bathroom was cramped and old, with mold around the bathtub and across the ceiling. There was no shower curtain, so water got everywhere. The place badly needs renovation. The surrounding area smelled bad too. The entrance is down a narrow alley where a car can’t drop you off. On top of that, road digging nearby kept us awake until 2 a.m. I usually don’t post reviews, but this was so disappointing.

Helpful staff and a nice location for the price. The shower has no curtain, so that’s the one thing I’d suggest changing. Towels were basically unlimited, though, just pick them up in the afternoon when they’re put out.

Hipzy Guesthouse is in Seoul, close to several markets and historic spots. Bangsan Market and Gwangjang Market are each about 300 metres away, Dongdaemun Market is 1.1 km away, and Jongmyo Shrine is under 1 km away. Myeongdong Cathedral is about 1.6 km away. Myeongdong Station, Changdeokgung Palace, and Changgyeonggung Palace are also nearby. Gimpo International Airport is 19 km from the property. The guesthouse is non-smoking and has free WiFi. Rooms have air conditioning, a private bathroom, a desk, flat-screen TV, bed linen, towels, and a fridge.
