The location is the only thing this place has going for it. This was the worst hotel I’ve stayed in in Seoul. The room was tiny and dirty, and the free internet was rubbish. For three days running, the cleaner took our towels and didn’t replace them. When we asked reception, we got hand towels and were told there was no laundry. Soap and shampoo also weren’t replenished during our seven-day stay, so each time we had to ask at reception and got a big sigh in response. Avoid this place.
Right by the busy shopping street and about 100m from the train station, the location is very convenient. The room has what you need, including a TV and a phone to call the front desk, but it’s very small and wasn’t very clean. The bathroom is tiny, with the sink basically inside the shower, and showering leaves the floor very wet and inconvenient. At least the water was warm. Staff were helpful and took care of our requests, and they let us leave our luggage after checkout. There’s an air conditioner for heating when it’s cold. Although the street is busy, we couldn’t hear the noise inside and slept fine. For the price and location, it’s acceptable.
If you want to walk straight out into the busy streets of myeongdong, the location is ideal. Just keep your expectations modest, since it’s a busy area and the great location is what you’re paying for. It’s a good place to sleep before heading right back out.
The sheets and duvet had yellow urine stains, the bedding had brown spots, and there was somebody else’s hair under the covers. The towels were full of holes and dark grey marks, even the ones described as “fresh.” There was visible mold in the bathroom, no working ventilation, and the whole room smelled of mildew. The air felt damp all night. It was one of the filthiest hotel stays I’ve had. The room looked as if it hadn’t been cleaned for weeks, if at all, and wiping the floor lightly with a hand towel turned it black. That’s neglect, not old dirt. I asked for fresh sheets, pillowcases, and duvet covers for the double bed. They brought me one stained pillowcase and one stained large sheet, with no duvet cover and no complete set. The room was unsanitary and unacceptable. I hated having to keep raising problems, but I was disgusted and angry, and couldn’t rest or even bathe. I don’t care if a hotel is budget, basic hygiene isn’t optional. This cost around $100 USD, which isn’t the most expensive, but it certainly isn’t cheap given the area and the better options nearby. The front desk apologized and gave me a small gift after I complained, but first tried to explain the room’s condition with strange, irrelevant excuses: “The room wasn’t used for two days, so the dirt is old,” and “I just got here,” even though he wasn’t the cleaner. I know this wasn’t his fault, per se. Once he saw the full extent of it, his tone changed and he was very apologetic. He seemed like a nice guy, but he was in charge at the time, so there was nobody else to escalate this to or get a further resolution from. This review is a warning about the hotel’s unclean and potentially hazardous standard. If you’ve booked a non-refundable room and checked in late or are stuck, there may be very little you can do. The experience also put a damper on my time in Seoul, a vibrant, beautiful city. There are plenty of clean, charming hotels, guesthouses, and hostels in the area. This one isn’t worth the risk.
The staff were the best part for me. They were friendly, accommodating, and helped a lot when I had a booking mix-up, which I really appreciated. The Stay is in a great spot in Myeondong, but the room is very tight and small. The bathroom was the biggest drawback, with barely any divider between the shower and toilet. It’s a decent option if you’re not too picky and want the location, though I’d look at other places next time.
