Mmmio II Design Residence Myeongdong

The staff are incredibly friendly, and the location is great, but the rooms could use some cleaning, updating, and general touch-ups. They haven’t aged well. I’d stayed here before while living in South Korea, then came back to Seoul for a visit and felt disappointed when I saw my room. There’s no kettle in the room, the free breakfast is no longer offered, and check-in is at 7 p.m. There is a cafe and bar now.

The location is near the metro, but it’s also close to bars and the area gets pretty rowdy, with lots of drunk people around. The room wasn’t worth the price, and it looked different from the photos. Mine was dirty and moldy, with stains on the surfaces. The towels were old and fraying, and a strong room fragrance seemed to be covering up a stale smell. When I complained at reception, the staff member said the hotel couldn’t do anything and told me to request cancellation through the booking platform if I wanted to leave. I did, but the hotel denied the complaints and refused a refund. Nothing was done to resolve my issues.

My family slept really well for four nights, and my two infants were excited as soon as they came into the room. The staff were friendly and helpful, and our five-day stay was pleasant. The room facilities were generally fair, and with a lower rate than other hotels, I still thought it was a good deal despite a few issues. The hot and cold water supply in the toilet and bathroom could be improved, as it sometimes ran unevenly while we were bathing. No bug bites or allergies, lol.

The bathroom was a nightmare, and after four nights at Mmmio II, we left disappointed. The toilet lid couldn’t stay upright because there wasn’t enough room, so it either rested against your back while you used the toilet or you had to remove it by hand. The drain was outside the shower cubicle and poorly designed. With four of us in the family, the first shower flooded the whole bathroom, and we had to wait for the water to drain before anyone else could shower. We were on the ground floor by reception and heard noise and laughter around 2 or 3 a.m. on several nights. It disturbed our sleep and continued after we raised it on the second night. We suspected the noise came from staff, since three girls were sitting together at reception. There was no housekeeping. A small room bin wasn’t emptied after the first two days. I told the desk, and it was empty the next day, but nobody came to clean after that, so I took out the trash myself. The apartment looked more or less like the photos, but it was dirtier, with a spider web on the lamp. I accepted that because of the industrial style and two-star rating. Still, it wasn’t worth the price, and the bathroom was clearly poorly designed.
