Myeongdong New Stay Inn

The reception staff were friendly, though they weren’t always around. The location was the only real plus for me. The room was dirty, the sheets weren’t clean, the wallpaper was coming off, water leaked from the toilet, and the toilet smelled bad and had mold. Laundry cost 2,000 won to wash and 2,000 won to dry. There were only two washer-dryer sets, usable from 6 pm to 11 pm, so you might miss out if there’s a long queue. If you’re on a budget, want to stay in Myeongdong, and can put up with poor cleanliness, it may suit you. The website photos set the wrong expectations. I wouldn’t stay here again, and for about USD 30 more there are better hotels around.

The location, the nice receptionist, and the convenience store downstairs were the only good things. The room had two single mattresses for two people and was so cramped you could hardly walk. The mattress was awful, and there were mosquitos everywhere. I asked for an extra pillow, but they said they didn’t have one. After more than 25 years of travelling, this was the worst room I’ve stayed in, in Korea or anywhere else. It felt like a hostel, not a hotel. I wouldn’t come back even if the stay were free.

The only positives were the convenience stores on the first floor and across from the hotel. The water heater swung between cold and very hot, and the four-person room was so small I could barely open my luggage. I visited in winter, and the seat wasn’t heated, so it was really cold. I would NOT stay here again.

The room was extremely cramped, even with our small suitcases, and the bathroom mold made the whole place smell musty and uncomfortable. We asked to change rooms but were told the hotel was fully booked. Staff said they knew about the mold and that a deep clean was planned for after our stay. That felt dismissive and unacceptable. Our friend had arrived a day earlier and was initially given that same room. The staff reassigned it to us without telling us about its condition. No other solution was offered, and the hotel ignored our request for compensation through Agoda. It was affordable and fairly close to Myeongdong, but we would NOT stay again.
