New Chonji Hotel

The rooms were clean and had what we needed, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The location is great, with plenty of good restaurants and coffee shops nearby. There’s no restaurant, which to me mostly means you aren’t paying for amenities you won’t use. The washer and dryer area is cheap and convenient, especially for a longer stay with kids.

A little food prep area in the foyer has microwaves, coffee, and reasonably priced vending machines. The rooms were clean and soundproof, and the staff were really friendly. Line 2 is about a five-minute walk away, with restaurants and cafes nearby, plus DDP and dundun store for shopping. Laundry and dryer use cost 2,000 won each. Had a great stay and would come back.

I’ve tried several hotels around Dongdaemun on my trips to Korea, which I make every few months, and New Cheonji hotel has been the best value for money. I stayed two nights this time and plan to book it again. I’m not sure why its rating is low. I booked a standard room without a window. It was non-smoking and had no smoke smell. Everything was very clean, including the white, stain-free sheets that smelled sanitized. The decor is vintage and retro, a nice change from the usual minimalist style, though that makes sense for a hotel that’s been around since the 1960s. For Seoul, the room was big: I opened my 28-inch suitcase without trouble. It had a queen bed, two armchairs, a separate bedside table, a dresser and mirror with a chair, a cupboard with four hangers, a full-length mirror, and a separate table under the wall-mounted TV with Netflix. There was also a hair dryer and a separate clothes and coat rack. The bathroom and toilet were very clean, with no moldy smell after showers, and the shower drained well. The hotel sits between Euljiro4Ga and DDP stations, so it’s handy for Lines 2, 4, and 5, and for late-night shopping at nyunyu/mimiline/APM malls.

We had a really good stay. The rooms were clean, and everyone on staff was friendly. There’s no breakfast, but a microwave and vending machine downstairs, plus plenty of places to eat nearby. We spent one night at another hotel close by, and the rooms here were much better at keeping out noise.
