Seoul Basecamp Hostel

The best part of the stay was the friendly travelers I met. One of the other guys at reception, a bulky muscular man, was much friendlier, though he only came by at night. The hostel and staff weren't worth the cheap price. I stayed four nights and was disappointed. The staircase up smelled so bad I stopped and went back out to check I had the right place. Inside, the receptionist greeted me with an unfriendly, condescending look. The website didn't say a piglet would roam freely through the hostel, even in the dorm. I was distressed by this and wouldn't have booked if I'd known, but staff didn't keep it in the common area at certain times. That same receptionist even chased it near me. It felt humiliating. Luckily, a traveler noticed and held the cute piglet so I could move around before leaving each morning. The room was filthy, with so much stuff on the floor I couldn't walk safely, and every morning there was a woman's wet underwear hanging on my bedpost. On checkout day I had to leave early for the airport. I know it was my fault for not checking out the night before as advised, but I left a note about arranging the refund of my 10000 won, and had tidied my bed and rubbish. They never replied. It's a small amount, but a little courtesy would have been nice.

Jake, the owner, is welcoming and friendly, and the place has a great community feel. He even gave up his own room to make space for another traveler. I'll definitely stay at SBC when I visit South Korea again.

The friendly people made this my favourite of the three hostels I stayed at in Seoul. I loved its authentic hostel atmosphere, and it was really clean too.

The host was great and fun to spend time with. The sleeping rooms were okay, and I had a great experience. Greetings to henley!
