For about what I’d pay for a hostel, I got a private room in Hongdae, and I liked it so much I extended my stay as long as I could. The room was clean and had the basics covered: a bed, desk, shower, and toilet. It’s very small, though, and the bathroom is especially narrow, just wide enough for the toilet, so larger guests should keep that in mind. I didn’t meet one of the hosts, but his mother was overseeing the building and was exceptionally friendly and hospitable. She cooks some kind of breakfast every morning with a huge number of banchan, so there’s home cooking included in the low price. Amazing value.
