World State Hotel Sokcho

World State Hotel was a dependable place to stay, with clean, well-kept rooms and a contemporary feel that made them relaxing. Its convenient access to local attractions, places to eat, and transportation made it a useful base for getting around. The staff were friendly and attentive, ready to help in a warm, professional way. There are practical amenities for an easy stay, whether you’re there for work or leisure, and the hotel offered a comfortable balance of quality and value.

The location worked perfectly for me. There’s a bus stop beside the main road, with buses from there and to Seoraksan National Park. On a clear day, you can see both the city and the ocean. The room had a full set of amenities, including an induction cooktop, microwave, washing machine, large refrigerator, and wardrobe. During my two-night stay, they left a fresh plastic bottle of water and clean towels by the door every second day. The booking experience was disappointing. Although they knew I was a foreigner, the initial communication was only in Korean and didn’t feel very welcoming. The low rate was listed with a choice of twin or double beds at check-in, but as soon as I booked, they rejected my twin-bed request without changing the Booking.com listing, which still offered twin beds. It felt like the low price was being used to draw people in. I went ahead because the location suited my needs, but on check-in day I never got instructions or an electronic code. After a long search, I found out I was sharing a room with another hotel. I waited in the lobby for half an hour, added the other party on WhatsApp, and called before I could finally check in. It was a long, tedious process. That night I found the hair dryer was broken, but after I messaged them on WhatsApp, they responded right away and fixed it.

Opening the room with an app instead of carrying a separate key was convenient, and the place is handy for sightseeing in Sokcho, near the central market. The property has a double bed and washing machine. Parking underground is limited, though, so at odd hours you might have to use the designated lot outside. There are four elevators for the guest rooms, but they didn’t seem big enough for the staff.

The main hassle was the elevator wait. There are only three, which feels too few, and I seemed to wait at least three minutes each time. The rest of the stay was comfortable: the city-view room had a small balcony, and the market was about a five-minute walk away. The bedding and everything else were clean. There’s a drum washing machine, a large refrigerator, a bidet in the bathroom, and soap by the sink. Basement parking is available, and you register it by texting or calling in your license plate number.
