The restaurants and walking trails nearby are a real plus, and the place is remarkably good value. You can tell the owner puts a lot of care into keeping it clean. I've stayed in Hwangji-dong and near Taebaeksan Mountain before, but when I have a car, I make the effort to come here.

The price is higher than Jeju, which is hard to justify. The room is supposedly a single, but I've never stayed in one smaller, even in Japan. Cold air pours through the poorly insulated windows, and there's no way to adjust the temperature yourself. The heat was so inadequate that I slept in my padded jacket. Hot water also takes about three minutes to arrive. Unless boiling cup ramen in a guesthouse is on your bucket list...

Blue Moon Guesthouse is in a quiet area, away from the busy parts of town. It's handy for Taebaeksan Mountain, Gumunso, and Cheoram Station. The catch is that you'll need to go to Taebaek City Hall to find food nearby.
