Ust-Kamenogorsk Hotel

If all you need is a small single bed and clean linen, this might suit a budget backpacker, since it's a little better than a hostel. There isn't anything else, though. No WiFi, and don't bother with breakfast. Try negotiating the price.

Breakfast was okay, and the shower had hot water, which was the only good thing. For the high price, this is a very basic hotel. There's no WiFi in the rooms, and using it at reception requires a Kazakhstan phone number.

It was very inexpensive, and there aren't many hotels in Oskemen, but the place felt pretty drab. The food was slightly disgusting, and the air conditioning was limited.

The staff were all friendly, the location was good enough, and I liked the traditional decor. The hotel is an original Soviet building, old and tired, though it's currently being fully renovated. The room was basic, but the bathroom had been newly renovated, and towels, soap, and shampoo were provided. Breakfast came with the stay, though it was very simple: tea or instant coffee, a bread roll and pastry, an egg, pasta, and doctor's sausage. Given Oskemen prices and the booking platform's usual 20% commission, what I paid felt fair. Everything matched what I expected for the price, and I have few complaints.
