Moon By Night

We stayed four nights at Moon by night bungalows and would stay there again if we busted Don Det. The room was spacious and very clean, with good air con, a comfortable bed, and hot water in the shower. There was free drinking water too, and the room fridge had a range of cold drinks at reasonable prices. Darren was full of information about Don Det, shared heaps of island recommendations and attractions, and could book tours. We did the one day kayaking, which was excellent. The location suited us perfectly, within walking distance of the main businesses near the port.

There are plenty of other nice places with pleasant staff along the same road. We had no trouble walking on and finding a good place for 200,000Kip (~$9) a night. I agree with an earlier review that the host seems to be selectively rude. I do wonder what went wrong for "people like me" to get a rude response. Glad the "hundreds" of other reviewers had a better experience, and I hope everyone is as lucky as them.

If you’re a sensitive sleeper, this is the place to get a good night’s sleep. The rooms are big, clean, and properly ventilated, so the air feels fresh. Beds are comfy, the pillows and blankets are good quality, and both the rooms and AC are quiet. The owner is very nice, and there are plenty of nice beach bars and restaurants nearby. Since the rooms aren’t right by the river or road, you don’t hear the noisy boats and motorbikes as much inside. They usually start going around very early, and I found that really annoying at other places.

Darren was a friendly, helpful host and answered all our questions. These bungalows are a lovely spot in Don Det, and this was truly the best stay we’ve had in Laos.
