At checkout, after we’d stayed the two nights, the woman at reception angrily claimed we had only paid for one and wanted us to pay for another. I had kept the receipt showing payment for both nights, and when I showed it to her, she just said “fine.” There was no apology. I’m confident she was trying this on deliberately, so keep your receipts if you stay here. Honestly, there are plenty of cheap, mediocre rooms in Luang Prabang where you won’t be treated this way. The other incident started when we noticed the lock on the room we’d paid for could be opened with any key, a screwdriver, or even the tip of a long fingernail. The woman at reception, who seemed to be the owner, had shown us the room and it had looked fine. We thought the lock was broken, so we reported it. After the staff member she sent up had seen the problem and told her, she yelled at me that nothing was wrong with the lock and said she’d move us if we didn’t like the room. Her anger at us pointing out the problem raised serious red flags. She did move us to a room with a proper lock, but I felt so uneasy that for the next two days I took our cash, camera, and laptop everywhere. This was a very poor experience, and I felt the place had tried to scam us twice.

A reasonably priced, nice place to stay, and they’re very accommodating to bikers.
