Mekong Estate

We had a thoroughly enjoyable four-night stay and would return if we came back to Luang Prabang. This peaceful place is made up of self-contained, old colonial style residences, with no bar, restaurant, or spa. It has well-kept gardens, a good-length infinity pool for swimming, and lovely Mekong River views, especially at sunset. It’s under a 10-minute tuk-tuk ride from the old town, a nice quiet base after exploring Luang Prabang and its environs. We stayed in the 'Garden Loft', a long, spacious bungalow with a good double bed, medium-sized dining table, and small kitchen equipped with pans and plates. There’s also a closet room and bathroom. The long veranda overlooks the grounds and the Mekong River, about 40 metres away. Breakfast was served there each morning, a great start to the day. The accommodation is airy, clean, and well maintained, though a little tired in places. The shower is badly designed, but that was a minor issue for us. Toie from the management team welcomed us warmly on arrival, and his English is excellent. He gave us a local mobile so we could contact him for taxis, trip bookings, and general questions. It also came in handy for making dinner reservations at local restaurants. During our stay, Toie and the woman who brought breakfast each morning were the only people from Mekong Estate we dealt with, which suited us perfectly. They were professional, helpful, and always smiling. We’d recommend it to friends and family.
