Sa Sa Lao

The peaceful atmosphere and riverside setting made it easy to relax. My room was charming, and the staff were consistently friendly, attentive, and ready to help with anything I needed. The food was great and it was good value, with lovely energy too. It feels like a little piece of nature in town. I loved it and would recommend this place.

I’ve been traveling around Asia for eight months, and this has been my favorite place to stay so far. I tried the shared and private rooms, and both were excellent. The staff are really friendly, and the food is great too. Make sure you try the seven-course Laotian menu. The garden is lovely, with the Nan Kang River running beneath it. You can head out from there for a sunset boat ride each day, and a boat ticket comes with the accommodation. There’s a laundry and convenience store 100 meters away, and the city center is 1600 meters away. Don’t miss this place.

The Wi-Fi was basically unusable, so I wouldn’t stay here if you need a reliable connection. Coffee from the menu is awful instant coffee, too. The hotel was one of the most expensive places we stayed in Laos, and I can’t see why. Don’t book tours through them. Our friend’s pickup was two hours late. On our tour, we were told we’d be dropped back at the hotel, but instead they left us 30 minutes away. The coordination was ridiculous.

Being woken by roosters crowing for about an hour from 5 a.m. every morning was the one real downside of our stay. Otherwise, this is a lovely, peaceful guesthouse that feels tucked into nature even though it’s not far from the city center. The bungalows are roomy, clean, and comfortable, with lovely bathrooms. The free boat service is a handy bonus for getting into town.
