The meals were just as good as I remembered, especially the garlic bread and cocktails, but my second visit was a letdown. Two years ago I stayed for two nights and everything, from the room to the food and service, felt perfect. This time the room itself was spotless, though the bathroom was in rough shape: the toilet wouldn’t flush, the shower hook didn’t fit the shower head, and water was left across the floor after a shower. The restaurant was a mess when I arrived around lunch. There were used tissues and disposable packaging on the floor, and with the strong wind much of it blew into the lake. I waited 15 minutes without getting a menu, then got one myself and ordered at the counter. Eating in that dirty space was unpleasant. Why use disposable cups here, and why aren’t there bins for the rubbish? There was noise both nights too, first barking dogs, then nearby guests playing loud music from 4 pm until 10:30 pm. At nearly $20 a night, the bathroom and noise weren’t acceptable. I’d now suggest it as a one-night stop at most, and hope you get some sleep.

The lake view made this a lovely stop on the Thahkek loop, and the owners were kind. The food was incredible, especially anything served with their homemade bread. Definitely try the garlic bread. My room was humid because none of the fans worked, and the staff speak very little English. Still, it was a peaceful place to spend one night.

The rooms are simple, but had everything I needed, and the ladies were really friendly. I loved sitting on the terrace by the river, watching the sunset over the lake. You can swim there too, and kayaks are free to use. The food was great, especially the shakshuka and French toast. I’d absolutely recommend this as a first stop on the thakhek loop.

I’d definitely come back. The staff were so friendly, and the clean, comfortable room was a great place to unwind. The restaurant was excellent too, with delicious food. The view is amazing, and the whole setting felt peaceful and just right for the Laos countryside.

We slept really well in a clean, comfortable room, even though the rooms are very basic. Breakfast was a lovely surprise, generous and tasty, just what we needed before getting back on the road. The staff were warm and helpful throughout. Because it was windy during our visit, we couldn’t do any lake activities, but the quiet views were still a highlight. Waking up beside the lake feeling rested was lovely. Phosy Thalang is one of the village’s larger guesthouses, with two locations offering rooms and a restaurant right by the water. For anyone riding the Thakhek Loop, Thalang makes a nice stop beside a beautiful lake, and Phosy Thalang Hotel is a good option for a simple, clean and friendly stay with good food and scenery.
