The staff did their best to make things pleasant. They carried our bags, opened the gate in the morning, and cleaned the room every day. We also had a mini fridge and a fun view across the Mekong River to Thailand. That was about it for the good parts of our first hotel in Laos. Our two nights there felt like a lot, especially with no gym. The air conditioning was hard to control, and another unit kept making a loud noise. There’s no elevator, so getting luggage up during construction wasn’t ideal, though the staff helped. The room got cleaned, but we weren’t given replacement shower supplies. The toilet paper was nearly gone, and the next day we got another roll but had to bring it up ourselves. A loud sound came from the toilet whenever the light was on. The bedside lights were awkward and made reading or talking in bed difficult. We also couldn’t open a window or the balcony door.

If you want to watch the Mekong, this could be a good spot. The hotel sits right across from the river, with nice views in the morning and late afternoon. The rooms have a classic look, and prices are above the town average. The riverside has become crowded with lots of restaurants, so it’s not the place for a quiet stay.

I’ve stayed at HBRM at least 20 nights over five visits, maybe more, and I keep coming back. The Mekong is just outside the front door, and the large river-view rooms are reasonably priced. It’s an easy walk into the center of town, and the well-known Spirit House is right on the property for food and drinks. Great spot for sunset, too. The service is excellent, the owner is friendly, and the rooms are clean. I’ll be back again.

The rooms are comfortable and nicely equipped, and Lucky the dog is such a sweetheart. We loved the place, and Spirit House next door makes wonderful drinks.

We had a very comfortable room with a lovely river view. There’s tea and coffee making equipment, and the night markets are just a short walk away.
