Sky City Hotel

The bed was very comfortable, the locks felt secure, and the front desk staff were amazing. Even with the language barrier, they got me an iron and brought an adapter cord I needed for my electronics, though I hadn’t asked for it. Those were the good parts. I still wouldn’t stay here again or recommend it. I’d give it zero stars if I could. BTJM, others may love it, but I’m not one of them. Before booking, I read the Trip.com reviews. Most praised the cleanliness, service, location and amenities, and lots of people mentioned the pool. There weren’t many exterior photos. Looking back, I’m guessing family members or staff may have written some of those reviews, and I’m not even kidding. The hotel pictures looked nice, but the reality was that the place seemed to be in an abandoned area, at least from the outside. It was a 20 minute walk to victory Monument, and there were very few nice restaurants nearby. I didn’t walk to the monument in the end, and booked my return trip for the next day. The hotel seemed not to have been maintained or cleaned in a long time, if ever since it opened. The lobby furniture was filthy and worn, as was the furniture in the rooms. The refrigerator hadn’t been cleaned. Towels were old and dingy, the soap was coin-sized, and the shampoo came in a teabag-sized pouch. There was mold around the sink, dirty lamps hanging crooked, filthy walls with some holes, and terrible floor molding. The window coverings were worn, ripped and full of holes. They felt like they might crumble if touched, and were extremely nasty. I didn’t feel like using the pool or having the free breakfast. One unexpected sight nearby was a guard walking into a bank I’d thought was an abandoned building, with a machine gun on his shoulder. I wasn’t prepared for that. And I had to laugh at the hotel description question, which offered options like luxury, great view, romantic, quiet, child-friendly, great value or high-tech. “None of the above” should have been an option.
