Beyt Amir is a lovely place, tucked into a quiet part of the city center that makes you feel far away from the city. I visited to see the exhibition about Beirut's transformation since 1870, and the space felt just right for it. The gallery is downstairs, with guest rooms above. There's also a cozy outdoor café and a small shop selling books and prints about Beirut and Lebanon. I'll watch for future exhibitions and would definitely recommend a visit.

In the middle of lively Hamra, Beyt Amir feels peaceful, with traditional, historic and architectural character. They have a small selection of drinks and delicious homemade cakes. I tried the chocolate cake with fresh orange juice. There are also lovely handmade items for sale, including bags, wallets, paintings, scarves and more.

I came for dinner and an expo. The renovation is really well done. Thanks for saving this place.

I must have walked down that street in Clemenceau so many times without noticing what is now Beyt Amir. Beirut has a way of keeping its lovely surprises in unexpected places. I wasn't surprised that the people behind Motto, Makan and Zawarib found this one. You can rent a room or a two-bedroom apartment, and they also offer daily breakfast and lunch, Thursday themed dinners, and Saturday brunches like Makan. The exhibitions are unusual too. The latest one, about the city's transformation, is worth seeing. The place, the welcoming staff and the tasty food all came together for me, just as they do at Makan. I've been to Makan for different themed brunches and dinners many times and have never been disappointed. On a lovely fall day, my friend and I were like kids at a funfair from the moment we walked in. We were taken by the setting, exhibition, food, everything. We toured each floor, talked with the manager and enjoyed every minute. They start the meal with crispy bread, zaatar mix and olives. From the international menu, we tried a fresh lentil salad with feta that I definitely recommend, and a tomato tarte with crunchy mille feuille dough and perfectly seasoned grilled cherry tomatoes. The simple ingredients worked so well, it's a must try. I love tuna, though the string beans in the tuna salad weren't for me and I'd swap them for something else. Places like this make each visit feel like travelling to a new city. Follow them on Facebook for themed dinners, brunches and current exhibitions. This one's a must visit. Are you ready to take off? A charming, peaceful oasis right in the heart of Beirut. Don't miss the art boutique.
