I found FCS fins at a fair price, and the staff were friendly without being pushy. They also stock boards, wax, and sun care products. This is one of the town’s more serious surf shops, since many others focus more on touristy merchandise than actual surf gear.

The owner was really nice, and I loved the shortboard I rented from cheeky monkey. It was one of my favorites. The boards are a little old, but there are plenty of different ones to choose from.

We stayed for three weeks and really enjoyed it. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with a cozy mattress that was firm in a good way, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. During our stay they even added a lovely new garden, so it’s clear they keep improving the place. The setting is quiet and felt safe, with cameras and a police station across the street. It’s also handy for Ahangama and Weligama, whether you’re heading out to surf or find breakfast, and getting around by tuk-tuk or bus is easy. We’d happily stay again.

I came here on my own and ended up staying five weeks. It’s easy to meet people over a game of pool, and the rooms are comfortable. The guys who work here are friendly and help with whatever you need. Great location too, definitely recommend it.

We really liked our stay at Cheeky Monkey. The room was quiet and reasonably priced, the location was great, and the staff were accommodating. Still, we seem to have had about $240 in cash stolen from our room. It feels like this may have been an isolated incident, and we loved the hotel, but I can’t give it five stars after losing our money, especially since there are no room safes for secure storage.
