Finding somewhere else to stay late at night was the only option after we couldn’t get anyone to answer us. We arrived at about 10 PM, but the whole property was dark and seemed closed. We rang the bell several times and called, with no response, even though the booking site said check-in was available until 12 AM. We spent nearly 20 minutes trying to reach someone before leaving for another hotel. Since we’re local, arranging a backup wasn’t too difficult, but I can imagine this being frightening and stressful for travelers from abroad. We complained to Expedia and eventually got a refund. The experience was extremely disappointing and inconvenient. We were scammed by this hotel.

The location is handy, right in central Ambalangoda and close to both the bus and railway stations. It’s a pretty good place to stay. One thing to know is that the doors and gates are shut from 22.30 to 7.30, which can make getting in or out difficult. You could still try jumping over the wall.

Service was good, and the air-conditioned rooms are probably unusual for remote Ambalangoda. I liked the fried seafood and noodles, though the soup was only average. 🌊🍲🌾🍜

The food was in good condition, and this hotel seems to appeal more to foreign visitors than locals. Guests from Italy, Germany, and other places seem to choose it.

We only had one night here at the tail end of our Sri Lankan trip, which was a shame because I’d happily stay again. The room was clean and comfortable, and we enjoyed a delicious fish dinner. We had a beer on the roof terrace, though we didn’t risk having dinner up there in case it rained. Trains and buses are close by, and the beach is an easy short walk away. I’d recommend the place.
