The seafood grill platter and chicken kottu were both tasty and satisfying. The food was nicely prepared, though nothing overly fancy. I sat out on the terrace, where the sea breeze made up for the lack of air conditioning. The ocean view is the real draw, especially near sunset, and the calm outdoor setting made dinner pleasant. Worth a visit if you’re after scenery with a good meal.

Our room looked out over the beach and pool, which was a nice view, but I left unhappy with the stay. The photos on Google are quite misleading, and the hotel is very small. It needs better upkeep: dust had collected on the balcony and chairs, and the room TV wasn’t working properly, possibly because of the remote. We were told music could play until midnight, but the speakers were removed by 11. It was outside near the beach, far from the hotel, and we’d even asked to keep the volume very low. No one had the courtesy to come back and answer us. The food cost far too much for this kind of hotel, and portions were small. Breakfast offered just four items, and the English breakfast came with only two slices of bread. Extra slices were Rs. 133 each. We were very disappointed, so we changed our booking from B&B to room only, which thankfully they allowed. The hotel needs much better maintenance and management to meet basic expectations.

We stopped in for a few drinks, and the setting was breathtaking. The beach was pristine, and the staff were polite, courteous, and accommodating. Great service.

Hotel J Ambalangoda was a lovely place to unwind by the beach. I arrived after a long event to find my room ready and the AC already running, which was a great surprise. The room was comfortable and had a lovely beach view. There’s a large, well-kept pool with lots of seats around it for relaxing. We booked BB, and breakfast had a good variety. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout, and service was great. Lunch and dinner are available from an à la carte menu too, which is convenient if you’d rather stay in. A relaxing spot in Ambalangoda.
