Rajarata Hotel

We stayed three nights. The rooms are plain, but the careful housekeeping made up for that. The staff even folded our clothes when we'd left them strewn around. The walls were the one dirty spot, with squashed bug remains visible. Service was really good. They accommodated our drink requests and remembered to put toothpicks on the table for the rest of our stay. The pool looked nice in photos and was fairly clean, but I felt exposed swimming there since the rooms all face it and I could see people looking at me. I'm not sure I'd come back. Still, if you want a clean place with good food options and friendly staff, I'd recommend it.

The meals were good, though we would have preferred more authentic food. Sri Lankan pol roti would have been nicer than naan bread. Staff in every area were helpful, and when our rooms were mistakenly assigned, they sorted it out straight away.

Breakfast had good options and the service was reasonable, but I wouldn't stay here again. I was put in a room near reception and had to put up with noise until 11 pm. Guests staying farther away told me they still found their rooms quite noisy. There were lots of mosquitoes in mine, and I ended my stay with huge bites.

The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, and the big, clean swimming pool was a real highlight. My room, 112, was spacious, tidy, and very clean, thanks to good housekeeping. The washroom was small but clean and perfectly functional. Unfortunately, room 112 is right beside the pool exit. Footsteps and doors slamming could be heard at all hours, which made it hard to relax or sleep. I was also disappointed by the restaurant food. For a hotel of this standard, I expected better quality and flavor. I'd suggest asking for a room away from the pool exits and perhaps eating in the city.
