The breakfast buffet was good, the pool was nice, and the hotel is conveniently close to a lot of places. But after two nights at hilltop, I came away feeling it was just okay, not somewhere I loved. The beds weren’t comfortable, and noise carried from outside, the corridor, and other rooms. People knocked on the door and sang in the middle of the night, waking me several times. The place needs improvement.

There’s a little shop just below the hotel stairs, and you can enjoy the view from there too. From the rooms, or from the lounge and restaurant if you’re by the pool, you can see the beautiful handy city. The hotel sits quietly up on a hill and has a lot to offer for the price, with reasonable rates for the service and view. Just watch out for monkeys. Leave a bedroom window unattended and the monkey king might pay a surprise visit 😅🙏

The sound from the road and nearby station made it hard to get a good night’s sleep. Unless you sleep deeply, I’d think twice about staying here. That’s a shame, because Hotel Hill Top had the best breakfast and evening buffet of all the hotels we visited. The view over Kandy is great, the amenities are excellent, and you can walk into the city in about 15 minutes.

The newer section has better quality rooms, and you get a good view across Kandy and the train station. It’s close to both the bus and train stations, though getting up the steep climb to the hotel is worth keeping in mind. It’s a 2 to 3 star place under new management, and they’re looking at making several upgrades.

There’s a bar, a pool, and even a snooker table here, and the food is excellent, usually served as a buffet. The atmosphere is peaceful, and the staff are friendly. Set on the bank of the Kandy Hillside, the hotel has a magnificent view of the whole Kandy town.
