Subaseth Villa

The food tasted good, but it took repeated follow ups to get it on time, and we weren't even given serviettes. Staff seemed to put villa owners ahead of hotel guests, so we had long waits. The pool was dirty, with grass and sand on the bottom, and the rooms weren't cleaned properly. There were tissues and polythene left behind by previous guests. Staff didn't seem properly trained, and service was extremely slow. Checkout was the worst part. They charged an extra LKR 3,600 for Sri Lankan omelettes even though a staff member had told us omelettes were free for children under 5. We took one and split it in two, but they still charged us. After we questioned it, they refunded only LKR 2,400, leaving us to pay for one portion that we'd been told was free. They said the staff member who gave us that information was a trainee, but that's not the guest's responsibility. Even though the food itself was good, the poor cleanliness, slow service, untrained staff and billing problem made the stay extremely disappointing. I wouldn't recommend this hotel.

The location is a bit out of town, which made it relaxing. Our rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable, and the pool was clean and very relaxing too. Staff were kind and made the dinner suit our diet. Breakfast was a bit lacklustre.

The rooms didn't match the online photos, and we had a negative experience we haven't had at other hotels. If you're traveling with a baby, check every arrangement in advance and ask specifically for the rooms shown in the pictures before paying an advance. I can't recommend this hotel for families with babies, though guests may have different experiences. A little preparation can help avoid unnecessary stress when you're paying your own money to travel for enjoyment.

The price didn't feel justified, and I wouldn't recommend this villa or stay again. It was poorly maintained, felt neglected and unsafe, and basic amenities were missing or not working properly. The place wasn't as described or shown in the pictures. Rooms were dirty and there was an unpleasant smell throughout. When we raised concerns, staff and management were unresponsive and unhelpful.
