The Iron moulding Cline nearby, dating to the 4 AD, is part of the area’s impressive history, though it’s hardly documented. You may need a guide to see the site. The location is lovely, beside the falling waters of Belihuloya, at the last 2 km of the Oya before it is dammed by the Samanala wewa bund, built in 1992. The bund is a spectacular sight if you can get permission to go to the top. The view from below is impressive too.

The rooms are a bit old, but they’re being renovated. The staff are lovely, and it’s a nice place to stay and eat. The food is delicious too. It’s close to scenic spots like Bambarakanda waterfall and Bakers bend.

I didn’t stay overnight. We stopped on the way to Balangoda for tea and chinese rolls, and the food was excellent. The service was absolutely stellar, and when we realized we’d forgotten something, we came back to find it kept safe and returned to us. It’s a nice spot to sit by the river with tea and short eats. I’d highly recommend it.

I just wanted time, cold beer and a cigar. I spent an hour on the veranda enjoying the place. It has real character, and you can enjoy the surroundings as much as the food. It’s very well maintained and brought back memories of the old days. I really enjoyed my stay.

The river view and sound from our room balcony were breathtaking, and we’ll definitely return. The food was great and the service remarkable. Our room was very clean, apart from a bathroom issue that was fixed straight away. We stayed in the new wing, built in 1999, and the vibe feels very dated.
