We stayed as a family of three in the upstairs penthouse. It had a clean room, a good shower, a living room and a lovely big outdoor balcony. The pool was good, and the venue was laid out well. The team at Canal Villa were great and very attentive. They made a special breakfast for our mother’s 80th birthday, including the pancakes and mango lassi we’d asked for. Great value for a stay, and I’d highly recommend it.

We loved waking to birdsong and seeing the squirrels in the trees in front of our balcony. The people at the property, Aruna, Nandana and Nandesiri, made everything easy. They kept the place and pool spotless, quickly fixed a couple of small room problems, and served delicious Sri Lankan omelettes for breakfast. They also gave us good dinner suggestions, including Olive restaurant within walking distance, and even went out to get us cold beers.

The location worked well for us, about a 15-minute walk to the beautiful beach, and we got helpful tips and support throughout. The hosts were incredibly kind, and we felt at home right away. Our room was spacious, spotless and well looked after. The chef made fresh, delicious food to suit our taste, whether mild or extra spicy. Canal Villa Bentota was a wonderful stay for hospitality, cleanliness and food. We’ll definitely return.

Everyone here seemed to care, and the atmosphere was good. The room was really nice too, and the staff were the best. I’d recommend staying here for a longer visit.

We were 15 people, including family and kids, and the kids had a great time. The rooms were clean, the showers had hot water, and the AC worked. Our vegetarian meal was a nice spread of roti and veg curry. Bodi looked after the luggage and sorted out breakfast and tuk-tuk arrangements, with excellent service. The one hitch was access: a big bus can’t get in, so bringing one is a challenge. Otherwise, all good. Recommended.
