The river setting is quiet and beautiful, with eagles, water monitors, and sometimes monkeys around the property. We took their boat out from the riverbank and drifted through the mangroves on a wildlife safari. It was a wonderful experience. Another trip highlight was walking up to the local Buddhist temple, where a monk talked with us about Buddhism and led two kinds of meditation. The staff are warm and attentive. When we arrived, they told us to ask for anything we needed, saying the hotel was our home. They can take you by tuk tuk to the beach or restaurants. There are lovely quiet beaches nearby, some great places to eat, and a small village with a few shops within walking distance. Everything felt clean and peaceful. This is one of our favorite hotels in Sri Lanka, and we liked it more than many pricier places we stayed. We enjoyed it enough to plan another stay at the end of our trip. We highly recommend this lovely little hotel.

What makes this small waterfront retreat special is its friendly, close-knit feel. There are just six rooms, with a few more being added, and guests often sit around the restaurant chatting with the helpful staff and one another. The setting is calm and well managed, though it can feel a little secluded, so it seems especially suited to traveling with a group. It doesn’t set out to be a four- or five-star luxury hotel, and that’s fine. I did notice a few bathroom details, including the vanity and accessories, that could use some care. Still, we had a lovely, peaceful stay.

The rooms are roomy, with bathtubs, and the pool was clean. The resort has six rooms and very courteous staff. It sits right on the bentotata river, and the owner, Mr Kamal, was a great host. It’s a good spot for a relaxed day stay, and the 7000 INR per night with breakfast felt worthwhile. Just know that it’s set a little way in from the main road, with no shops nearby. If you’re happy staying at the property, it’s superb.

Orchids blooming by the rooms brought a lovely touch of nature to our family stay at Water Side Bentota. We had a peaceful atmosphere, a superb lake view, and comfortable rooms. The pool was clean and well maintained, and we enjoyed relaxing there together. A quiet, scenic getaway in Bentota, and a great choice.

The food was a real hit with the whole family. There were lots of delicious vegetarian choices. The rooms were clean and spacious, the property was superb, and the amenities made for a comfortable stay at Waterside Bentota. Every member of the staff was kind, helpful, and cooperative, which made the experience so good. It was also a great stay for the price. Thanks to all the staff for such a memorable visit.
