City Beds Colombo

The room itself looked lovely and was clean, and the staff were very friendly. They met us at 1 a.m. But the two nights were hard. Birds chirped, banged on the roof and doors all night and into the morning, and we could hear trains, cars, and noisy neighbors. There’s no sound insulation at all, and we woke up because of the noise. I added a video with the sounds in the room. There was no blanket, so with the air conditioning on we were cold, but without it the room was stuffy and hot. I had to sleep in my clothes. The passage to the rooms is inside the building and very old and dirty, with a huge dead cockroach there. You also have to go through a bunch of doors to reach the 3rd floor. Without that corridor, the hotel would seem quite cozy. It’s okay for one night, but we had to spend two.

The price and location are good, and I liked having privacy and comfortable beds. The bathrooms are spacious and clean. I was a bit cold at night because the bedding is quite thin. A duvet or blanket would help, though perhaps they have one if you ask.

The dorm beds each have curtains, and the rooms and facilities are modern. Staff were really nice and helpful, and pointed me to a good place to eat nearby. Colombo Fort railway station is about half a kilometer away, a 10-15 minute walk. Agoda was at least $10 cheaper when I booked online. When I extended for another night directly with the hotel, they said it would cost $35 rather than the $25 I’d paid through Agoda. They also say the front desk is open 24 hours, but you can’t check in after 11 pm. What happens if your flight is delayed?

The staff were helpful, especially Riyas, who made me feel so comfortable. Thanks for all your help and good attitude! City beds is a great place to stay. The rooms are very clean and nicely designed, and the location is perfect, just a five-minute walk from the train station.
