Hotel Fair View Hotel

The room was clean and quiet, and the staff were friendly and very attentive. We were grateful they let us check in so late, around 1am, and we'd definitely stay here again in Colombo. The breakfast buffet was nice too, though freshly made milk tea would have been a welcome addition. We couldn't work out how to drain the sink, so we mentioned it to a cleaner. It was fixed while we were out, without our consent for anyone to enter. Please ask first before doing repairs when guests are away. That would help us feel safer.

We spent two days at this hotel, and breakfast was disappointing both mornings. The menu seemed limited to one style of cuisine, with no usual Sri Lankan options like rice or other local dishes. It didn't offer enough variety for guests who prefer different Sri Lankan food. A male staff member who seemed to be a supervisor also behaved very unprofessionally. He didn't confront us directly, but spoke loudly in an aggressive, blaming and complaining tone about small amounts of food left on plates, showing the plates as he spoke. Other guests could clearly see and hear him. These weren't full plates of wasted food, just small portions. We understand reducing food waste matters, but calling it out publicly that way made the atmosphere uncomfortable. Hotels should make all guests feel equally welcome through both their service and food options. I hope management takes this seriously and improves the staff's professionalism and offers a more inclusive breakfast selection.

A special mention for Siva, the Restaurant Manager. His warm hospitality, professionalism, and attention to detail made our meals welcoming and well managed. He recommended the signature crab curry with traditional Sri Lankan roasted bread, dhal curry, and sambol. Our extended family loved it at dinner. We had a thoroughly enjoyable seven-day family stay at Fair View Hotel in Colombo, and thought it was excellent value. The clean, well-maintained rooms and bathrooms, comfortable beds, and overall standard were better than we expected. The restaurant staff and security team were prompt, professional, and helpful throughout. Breakfast was a highlight too, with a generous selection of Asian and Western food, fresh fruit, and baked items that was rotated regularly. We'll definitely be back!

I thought it was good value for money, with a multi-option buffet breakfast and professional service. The hotel in Wellawata, Colombo 6 was very clean and felt secure, with IDs checked. One humble request for management: I saw a poster advertising Jaffna high tea, but the items shown didn't seem related to Jaffna. Please check with people from Jaffna.
