Mirage Colombo Hotel

After a long walk along the seaside, the covered outdoor pool was a refreshing treat. We also had a large room with an ocean view, and the breakfast was fab. The staff were engaging and incredibly helpful throughout our great stay at the Mirage Hotel. Ms Visuddhika at the front desk deserves a special mention for all the help she gave us.

The beach is right across from the hotel, which made it easy to get to, and there are good vegetarian restaurants nearby. The chauffeur was friendly too. Our booked beach-facing room wasn’t available when we arrived, so we were given a city-facing one. That meant the opposite side of the building, where the window looked onto the balcony of a residential house. The room also smelled foul. We were moved to another room with a partial beach view, which was better, so we stayed there.

We spent a few great nights at Mirage Hotel Colombo, right on Marine Drive in Wellawatte. The sea views and sunsets are beautiful, and the beach is only steps away, even though you’re in a busy city. Rooms are spacious and spotless, with good AC and comfortable beds. What really made the stay was the warm Sri Lankan hospitality. The doormen greeted us like old friends, and the front desk handled last-minute requests without fuss. Everyone was genuinely friendly and keen to help. It’s a clean, modern oceanfront hotel with personal service and good value for a 4-star place. Highly recommend.

Keep in mind there’s no room for drivers. The food we tried was good, and they made a real effort to offer different cuisines at the buffet. Staff service was professional and friendly. Rooms are compact, which is the tradeoff for the view, but ours was good. Ask for a full sea-view room if you can. Evening sun comes straight in and makes it very hot, though the AC helps. The hotel is directly across from the sea on Marine Drive. Cross the road and railway track and you’re at the shore.
