We liked the villa and its location, and having the whole place to ourselves was good. The caretaker was nice, though he sometimes joined our conversations, and I think he should respect guests’ personal space. The beds and rooms were comfortable, but cleanliness was an issue. There was a lot of dust behind every window curtain, including the bathroom curtains, and it made breathing difficult with the AC on at night. There were no hand showers, which should be stated on the site since not everyone is comfortable with the alternative provided. We enjoyed spending time together, eating, and using the rooftop, and mostly cleaned up after ourselves. But this isn’t the right place if you want privacy or to hold a gathering. The host and caretaker aren’t happy with parties because of the location. The caretaker could also be more polite. He repeated instructions about how to behave and use the space, and we had to tell him we all work in hospitality.

We left early after a terrible stay. There are cameras inside the house, which made us uncomfortable, and the caretaker kept trying to control us as if we were staying for free. We felt we couldn’t even talk or laugh, and he set a time for us to sleep. He threw away our food without asking. When we challenged him, he spoke very rudely. It felt like all he cared about was money. Do not visit this place.

There was no privacy here, and the caretaker was in our space from the moment we checked in. The house has cameras inside, which made us uncomfortable. We’d paid the full amount before arrival, but when it was hot he asked if we wanted the central AC on and said there’d be an extra charge. We declined, so I turned on the AC in our room. As soon as I came downstairs, he went through the rooms without asking and switched it off. He tried to control us as though we were staying for free. We couldn’t talk or laugh, and he even set a time for us to sleep. We stayed up talking until around 5 in the morning. Once we fell asleep, he threw out our food and boxes without asking, though we’d spent a lot on it and planned to eat it the next day. When we asked him about it, he was rude. Around 7 in the morning, we were sitting in the sitting room and he switched off the fan without asking, even though he saw us there. We left early. It was a horrible experience. Do not visit this place.

We stayed at shalimar residency for two weeks while getting ready for my wedding. The house was clean and well looked after, with three spacious, comfortable bedrooms, and it’s conveniently close to nugegoda. The owners were friendly and attentive. I’d mixed up my arrival date and got there much earlier than planned, but they were flexible and let me check in early. Deva, the caretaker, and his wife rani were the best part of the stay besides the house itself. They helped tirelessly with wedding preparations and made sure my family and I were cared for. I arrived in sri lanka alone, and having them there made me feel safe. Deva made sure I was comfortable and had enough to eat. We didn’t have to worry about anything, and everyone who visited loved Deva and ranis hospitality. It was outstanding. Deva shows a kind honesty and integrity that feels very rare in sri lanka now. We’ll definitely stay again.
