Port View City Hotel

The rooftop was a lovely spot to unwind, and the staff made the stay especially memorable. The breakfast team were thoughtful and kind, and everyone made us feel looked after. We spent two nights here after arriving in Sri Lanka. It’s a mid-range hotel, and for what we paid, it was really good value. The atmosphere and service were lovely. I’d happily recommend it.

The location worked really well for seeing Colombo and for business, and we had a lovely stay as a couple. Everyone on staff was accommodating and kind. Rilhan, the manager, took especially good care of us and let us leave our things in his office both before check-in and after checkout.

For a hotel costing 17 euros a night, the room was tidy, the linens were clean, and there was both AC and a fan over the bed. The staff were great, with no problems there. The window to the outside was blocked by foam from the building exterior, so it didn’t really provide an outside view. There was also a window facing the corridor, with curtains, which felt odd. Breakfast came with the room: coffee or tea, toast with butter and marmalade, yogurt, sliced local fruit, and an omelette.

The bedrooms were clean, tidy, and comfortable enough, and reception sorted out the AC in one of our rooms quickly after we reported it. Breakfast was a letdown, though. One staff member was repeatedly slow and inattentive; we asked three times for an omelet, and coffee and toast were seldom replenished. For the price, maybe that’s what you expect. Despite the name “Port View,” there isn’t much of a view. Colombo around the hotel felt hectic, with heavy traffic and unpleasant smells. The rooms are fine for sleeping, but I’d look elsewhere for meals.
