The Capsule Hotel

I’d stay here again. Sleeping in a capsule was a lovely experience: mine was the vertical ground capsule, comfortable and private compared with a regular hostel. The place was very clean, with Wi-Fi, private lockers, a shared area, and a game room on the top floor. My only issue was the mixed showers and toilets, which were small and not always clean.

The capsules are comfortable and great. The showers were small and unclean, probably because of the humidity and lack of maintenance. Also, there are rats in the second-floor cafeteria. I went for water at night and saw two huge ones on the table beside the plates. I told the front desk guy, who already knew and wasn’t surprised. I really hope they deal with it, but for that reason alone I can’t recommend this place.

The location is handy, with plenty of restaurants and a few shopping malls nearby, and the capsule itself was clean and comfortable. Just know that you can hear someone talking on a phone in the next capsule, so they aren’t soundproof. The door only stays shut by a magnet and can be pushed open with a little force. There is a large locker for valuables, though.

We chose this because it was the cheapest place we could find in Colombo, but I can’t say I thought it was good. The rooms were small and heavily air-conditioned, which I didn’t like, especially after a long flight.
