I booked one night for my family, then got a call the day before arrival saying the hotel was cancelling because of a fire. They still charged me, and two weeks later I had no refund. When I called to sort it out, they kept claiming they’d credited my account, but they hadn’t. They also gave a different explanation for the cancellation, saying there had been a power outage. The customer service was awful, the staff felt completely unreliable, and I’m out 100 euro because of the hotel’s and staff’s ignorance. It was a horrible experience. Stay away. There are cheaper, friendlier, nicer places in Colombo. I’d suggest Chapelton House on first Chapel Lane, with clean, lovely rooms and lovely staff.

The rooms were spacious, especially clean, and the bathroom was nice and clean too. Breakfast tasted good, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the service was excellent. It’s a beautiful, clean place close to anywhere in Colombo town. Please fix the bathtub so guests can use it.

We paid around £45 a night and felt it was far too much for what we got. Our economy room was dirty, the air-con seemed unreliable, and the bathroom was very basic. Mosquitoes were everywhere in the room and lounge. When we asked about nets, the staff laughed, though otherwise they spoke okay English, answered our Colombo questions, and were friendly. The hotel is on a grotty side street near a main road, with no scenic setting. It felt like a budget hotel dressed up as a posh one, and the professional photos were misleading. Maybe the premium rooms are nice, but our stay was pretty bad.

I cancelled my reservation during the free-cancellation period, but they still took money from my card. The CEO and manager are big cheats. I visit Colombo often and used to think highly of the country, but this hotel has changed that. Don’t book here. Who knows what they might take if you actually stay. Stay at your own risk.

The staff, especially the hotel manager, were the best part: friendly, kind, and ready to help. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with a cool ethnic design, and there are some nice restaurants nearby. It’s a little far from the center, but worth staying the night.
