Yoho Nilara Resort

The place feels dated and kitschy, and the massage quality didn't justify how high the prices were. The masseuses talked to each other a lot, and you could hear all the street noise from inside. Definitely not the best massage place.

After a full day of travel, we couldn't find the place at first even though there was a clear sign. A man there denied it was Yoho Nilara and insisted it was an Ayurvedic spa. We circled around for half an hour and ended up back where we'd started. Then we waited about ten minutes, only to be told they were overbooked and had nowhere to put us. We had booked a week earlier, called ahead to say we'd arrive late, and had already shown up. It would've been nice to know in advance so we could make other arrangements. They offered us a room at a cheaper neighboring hotel for the first night and said we could move to Nilara the next day. We went back to ask the owner, who had made the offer, to confirm it, but he wouldn't see us. At 4:30 in the afternoon we were told he was “busy” and “eating.” The way we were treated was terrible, and the hospitality under the Yoho chain was awful. It put a damper on our whole trip, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. A shameful example of the hospitality Sri Lanka is supposed to be known for. Don't go unless you're prepared for disappointment and a lack of professionalism.

The food and service were both excellent, and they even adjusted the dishes to suit our tastes. My picky nine-year-old was happy too. We had a wonderful time at this hotel, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

The massage was good, and I loved the herbal oil they used. The facilities are basic, but the price was affordable.
