Manel Guesthouse

I spent three weeks at Manel guesthouse in the upstairs apartment, one week with my boyfriend and two on my own. I never felt lonely, because Manel and her parents looked after me so well. They’re wonderful, generous hosts, and Manel works incredibly hard to make sure you have what you need and help with anything. The house is peaceful and beautiful, with monkeys visible from my balcony, squirrels running around, and lots of birds. Manel also let me use the large downstairs living room while it was unoccupied. It’s spacious, cozy, and well furnished. With its two bedrooms and kitchen, I think it would work really well for a family staying in Galle for a few nights, weeks, or longer. Some guests return every year and stay for up to six months. The upstairs apartment would suit a couple or a family with one child. I loved the living room, with its many windows and openings that let in so much fresh air, almost as if you’re outside all day. The high ceilings in both the living room and bedroom give it a lovely sense of space. I was there in June and didn’t need the AC, since the fans were enough to keep cool. After seven months of travel without access to a good kitchen, being able to cook for myself was a real treat. And everything Manel’s mom makes is absolutely delicious! It’s a simple, welcoming place, quiet but still close to busy Galle and beaches like Unawatuna. There aren’t fancy restaurants within walking distance, but it’s easy to get a tuktuk and see the area. The downstairs rooms could work for families, and the house suits short stays as well as longer ones. Thanks so much for those three weeks with you, Manel. I miss you already 😘
