We loved taking it easy on the porch with a book and those wide, peaceful views. The rooms and bathrooms are roomy, the beds are comfortable, and each one had two cozy blankets, which came in handy on chilly January nights. Breakfast was great, and dinner was even better: the best curry and egg koththu we had on the whole trip. We felt welcome right away, and they arranged a tuk tuk up to lipton’s seat.

The meals were fresh, organic, varied, and so delicious. The dining room has floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the tea estates, and there’s a lovely living room too. Our family of four felt so at home here that leaving was hard. We also loved the views from the shared balcony. The care they took to make us comfortable and welcome meant a lot. Such a special place for families.

It was easy to arrange transport for sightseeing, and everyone we met there was friendly and helpful. We also really enjoyed the food. The balcony has a great view, and the guest house is about a 10-minute walk from the train station, though the walk back up the hill is a climb. The town felt busy with locals going about their day, and there weren’t many tourists around.

I did St Catherine in reverse, then tackled stage 14 of the Pekoe trail from this well-located hotel. The host suggested catching sunrise at Lipton seat, and it was worth getting up and leaving at 5am.

I left my wallet in the room by mistake, and the owner called as soon as they found it, then walked up the hill to bring it back to me. That kindness really stood out. The room was spacious, lovely, spotless, and had a hot shower. The owner was incredibly kind, and breakfast was excellent, including soursop juice, which you don’t find everywhere. Highly recommend staying here!
