The family who runs the place made this one of my favorite stays in two months of traveling in Sri Lanka. Whenever I came back from an outing, they offered me tea, and they helped me sort out transport more than once. They seemed to know the bus and train times by heart. After an early hike, even though I was technically due to check out, they let me rest there. That kindness meant a lot. I booked a private room and would recommend it. It was clean and had a lovely view. I felt safe and comfortable from the minute I arrived, which stood out because Haputale itself can feel a little odd at times. They also have a restaurant where everything is made fresh. The food was delicious, especially the mixed kottu. I’m so glad I stayed here, and I won’t forget it.

The staff were so friendly and easy to talk to, and kept bringing us hot tea in the cold weather. They also had great suggestions for things to do. We were disappointed that the restaurant food wasn’t really to our taste. The main area has a fantastic view. We had booked a room with that view, but the place was overbooked, so we got a larger room instead, sadly without a view.

When we returned after hiking the Pekoe Trail for three weeks, it felt like coming home. The family kindly stored our large bags while we were away, and we really appreciated their hospitality. We had a room with lovely valley views, and the owners were helpful with all our requests. The chef was kind, cooked delicious meals, and offered a cooking class. It was a fun way to learn about Sri Lankan dishes.

We stayed one night during our motorbike trip. The view was great, and the room was clean and nice. It’s set a little back from the main street, so we had a quiet night, and there was a hot shower too. We really enjoyed our time there.

The view from all those balconies was incredible. I sat watching clouds move over the mountains and could hardly believe what I was seeing. The family running the bungalow are so warm and kind, they made me feel at home. Deema is a very talented chef who welcomes you into her kitchen to learn to cook and have fun. Haputale is beautiful too.
