Oasey Beach Hotel

You can walk there from Bentota, it’s a bit out of the way but not far. The food could use some work.

The location is good, but everything else was bad. The rooms smelled and the sheets were dirty, so we checked out after one day. They’d made us pay upfront, and we couldn’t get even a partial refund. We also met other travellers who left after just one night. I’m usually easygoing about travel, but this place is rotten. Sorry, that’s my honest take, and I’d avoid the hotel.

There was barely any beach left on their side, just a 3-4 foot strip battered by the tide. The second-floor room was roomy and had a shared balcony, but the linens weren’t clean enough: hairs on the bedsheets and grass on the uncleaned single bed. The commode was the worst problem and wouldn’t flush properly, and I couldn’t get the safe to work. I’d give the room about 5 out of 10. Food options were limited, though the portions were adequate, a 6 out of 10 compared with our last visit in September 2023. It’s off season, yet we were charged more than on our previous in-season visit.

The reception staff were rude during check-in, which made for an unpleasant start. We were also charged more in USD than the amount on our Booking.com invoice, plus another 10% service charge. The room had several basic problems. There was no intercom to call room service despite the service fee, and no mirror in the room for getting ready. The bathroom had no exhaust fan or doormat, so after using it we had to walk back into the room with wet feet. The tea bags were left open rather than sealed, and there was no milk powder in the tea kit. I can’t think of a single positive part of this hotel; the negatives ruined our vacation.
