Hotel Lux Etoiles

Azar was easily the best part of our stay. He was available around the clock, answered our questions, and seemed able to find a solution for anything. His trilingual communication was impressive. We chose Lux Etoiles because it was centrally located in Jaffna, close to the wedding venue and our other activities. A friend of one of our group recommended it, and the choice had nothing to do with it being cheap. Our group was made up of National Airline crew members who travel widely for work, holidays and vaccination, and have stayed in many kinds of local and international hotels, resorts, ships, game parks and luxury camps. The room conditions were mixed. Some rooms were in good shape and had a mini refrigerator, DVD player and acceptable amenities. Others were ultra basic, small and stuffy, with poor bathrooms. The fridge in one room didn't work and smelled bad when opened. My room was missing a handheld shower, and after it was fixed the shower still didn't reach its wall bracket, so I had to sit or squat to shower. We paid RS. 2000 PP for a typical Yaal BF. After eating at a few restaurants in Jaffna, that price now seems baseless, even absurd. The facilities also need attention from the owner, who should look at the reviews and see what needs fixing. One of our guests slipped on water leaking from the roof while checking out. She was hurt and in pain and discomfort for the rest of the day, which kept her from doing activities she'd been looking forward to. It makes you wonder what might happen if this happened to a foreign National. Dear Azar, please see this as feedback from our group stay at Lux Etoiles.

Manager Azaar was a really nice gentleman, and his trilingual ability is a plus. He seemed unable to do much about the state of the building, though, which badly needs refurbishment and renovation. He's a good employee, and I hope he gets the chance to manage a better hotel. I'm sure he'd do a wonderful job. Good luck to him. My wife and I had booked two nights on a three-day trip to Jaffna. As soon as we checked in, we decided we couldn't spend even a minute in that horrible room and left straight away. It was the worst place I've ever seen in my life.

A swimming pool is available for both hotel guests and outside customers, and they offer swimming lessons at low rates. There's also a fully air-conditioned wedding hall, so it's a good spot for parties and group events, with a buffet at a reasonable price.

The big, clean pool is the best thing here, and it's well kept. The rooms are okay, though ours had a bad odour. It's a very budget type of place to stay in Jaffna, and the outside doesn't look attractive at all.
