The Albatross, Kandy

Chef Benedict is the real highlight here. Every dish was delicious, and the presentation was thoughtful and distinctive. For newcomers, expect around 45 minutes for your food. It may sound like a long wait, but I thought it was worth it, since each plate seemed to be made carefully instead of rushed. The panoramic view of the Victoria Dam is breathtaking, one of the most stunning settings I've seen for a meal. The staff were warm, attentive, and professional from the moment we arrived. If you enjoy fine dining, beautiful scenery, and a chef Benedict who knows his craft, Albatross is a must-visit. It's the kind of dining experience that stays with you.

We slept better here than anywhere else during our weeks in Sri Lanka. The rooms felt a little outdated compared with other higher-end places in the country, but the view was amazing and the service really friendly. We had a great stay at the Albatross. The food was delicious, and breakfast was too. The chef was great, though the portions felt more suited to four people than two. For non-Sri Lankan guests, I’d suggest making them a bit smaller.

The wildlife around the grounds was lovely, and the views over the golf course and river made it a peaceful place to wander. My partner enjoyed a round at the local course while I had a spa treatment and massage. We also chose it because the cricket stadium was about 20 minutes away. It was a wonderful, restful last stop after our trip, and the helpful team and excellent food made us hope to come back before long.

The staff were so lovely and ready to help, and the cocktails were great, especially Ayesh's ceylonese. We stayed on half board and both dinner and breakfast were fantastic. Dinner came in four courses, with beautifully prepared food and very fresh seafood. The prawns were some of the best we've had. They even made extra french fries for the kids. Breakfast was our favorite in Sri Lanka, with real bacon and eggs cooked just right. The view is hard to capture in photos, and though the place is far from everything, we thought it was absolutely worth the trip. At times it felt like we had a private catered villa. We had an amazing stay and would love to return.
