Hotel Kanda Uda

We spent one night here with family and had a good stay in a comfortable room, though the overall quality could be better. The staff were great, breakfast was included at a reasonable price, and the location is cool and easy to reach from Kandy City and Maligawa. Worth the money, and I’d recommend it.

We were there from 16th to 18th August 2018 in a family room, and the location worked well, close to the kandy lake and town. Tuk tuk rides can be arranged at the hotel. The room was roomy and comfortable for a family, with three good beds, A/C, TV, and other facilities in fine condition. Everything was clean, and the staff were courteous and helpful when we checked in. Suraj, Rasika and Chamika were especially friendly and helpful. The food was served the way we asked, and despite the cold weather it came out hot and delicious. The little restaurant next to the family room was cozy, with a lovely view and scenic surroundings. During perahara, we could see the Maligawa lit up at night from the open restaurant. There’s also a beautiful terrace on the top floor.

I stayed two nights at Kanda Uda hotel in Kandy last week (April 2017), and would come back if I visit Sri Lanka with my parents. The location was convenient, and I enjoyed walking around the lake in the evenings. The room had a fresh coat of paint, a clean bathroom, and a good television with lots of channels. The staff and manager were very helpful, and the hotel arranged a Tuk tuk for getting around. I ordered dinner from the a la carter. Breakfast was reasonable, with two slices of fruit, fruit juice, a Sri Lankan omelette, toast, and tea. The service and facilities were enough for the room rate I paid, and the stay was very comfortable.

The room wasn’t safe or comfortable. They put us near the cafeteria, the doors didn’t close properly, there was a stink, and the bathroom was dirty. We were only given a thin sheet to cover up with, and I got rashes from using it. There were three beds, but when there were two of us the manager told us not to use the third. The charging ports weren’t proper, and the ones there didn’t work. We also had no hot water and had to shower in cold water. This shouldn’t be called a 3 star hotel. It was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in and not worth a penny.
