Hotel Yo

The generator kept the electricity and water running during a cyclone, even while much of Kandy was dealing with outages. That made a huge difference to our comfort and safety over our four days at Hotel Yo. The staff were kind and upbeat throughout the rough weather, and housekeeping cleaned our room thoroughly each day. Breakfast was satisfying, too. The hotel feels peaceful and removed from the noise of central Kandy. We couldn't swim because of the weather, but when the skies cleared on our last day, the pool area had a beautiful view. We'd love to come back in the sunshine.

The lake and mountain panorama was a real highlight, and the staff made us feel very welcome. We spent three nights at Hotel Yo and found it easy to get to: a pleasant walk along the lake takes you into the center, or a tuk-tuk gets you there in a few minutes. The rooms are spotless, though their older style shows the hotel's age. Everything worked well. We hadn't booked breakfast, but they kindly gave us one on departure day. We'd happily stay again and recommend it.

We had a shower drain problem the first night, and staff came to sort it out right away. They were so kind. Breakfast was a delicious, generous spread, and although we didn't use the pool, it looked lovely. The location is beautiful, with town a five-minute walk away and a great restaurant just two minutes away.

The breakfast was the weak spot. The hot food wasn't kept hot or covered, and the chef was a bit heavy-handed with the salt. Still, the rooms were spacious and clean, with a very comfortable bed, and the staff were kind and helpful. It's a small hotel with a colonial feel, which we liked. The pool area is lovely, though the loungers need cushions. We'd still come back.
