Kandy Hills Resort

We came in early January 2026 and had a really good stay at Kandy Hills. The hotel is in a quiet area with fresher air, yet close to everything and easy to reach by tuk tuk. The staff were helpful and attentive throughout, sorting out laundry, transport, luggage, and recommendations while staying out of the way until needed. Our room was cleaned daily, and the bed was especially comfortable, with large, spotless sheets. Breakfast was excellent value: filling, generous, and served buffet style with lots of options, including good vegetarian choices. The dining area was quiet and pleasant, with a nice view. The hot water in the shower was sometimes unstable, and the interiors felt a little vintage, but the rooms were very spacious, clean, and comfortable. Thanks to the Team for recommending Roshan and his father as drivers and guides. The day trip they arranged for us to Sigiriya and nearby attractions was a real highlight. We'd happily recommend this calm, comfortable, well-run hotel.

We loved the hotel, restaurant, staff, monkeys, and especially the location overlooking Kandy. A monkey came through the balcony door on our first morning and helped itself to the sugar sticks, clearly something it had done before. We got extra bananas at breakfast and gave them to him afterward. Probably not recommended, and if you have trouble with the monkeys, sorry, that's our fault. It's a five-minute walk to the end of the lake and 15 minutes to town. Hotels at this level are usually expensive, so the price felt very reasonable.

We were a couple from Germany on a two-week trip to Sri Lanka in February 2026 and stayed in seven hotels. I'll mention just the pros and cons here, and otherwise the hotel was what you'd expect for its category and price. The rooms were really big, maybe too big. There was no mosquito net, and we could hear a lot of hallway noise from inside the room. Walking up and down was quite strenuous, and there were aggressive wild dogs.

Our two-night visit to Kandy stretched to three because a cyclone was passing through. The hotel is up a steep hill, which would be fine in dry weather, but we never had any. It's about a 30-minute walk from the town center. Breakfast had lots of options, including an omelette station, while dinner was very bland. The staff were friendly, and the constant power cuts and lack of WiFi were due to the weather. Pick Me and Uber seemed to refuse pickups, so your best bet is to start walking and wait for a Tuk Tuk to come by.
