Owinwil Boutique Hotel

The staff were rude and seemed unwilling to help. When I raised questions or concerns, they acted as if I was bothering them. My room was dirty and smelled bad, with carpet stains and grime in the bathroom. The sheets didn't look fresh, there were crevices in the walls, and the TV didn't work. I asked to change rooms, but the staff were just as indifferent. Housekeeping clearly hadn't paid attention to cleanliness or detail. The facilities were poor and the whole stay fell well below even basic hospitality standards. Kandyan Hideout Hotel was one of my worst hotel experiences, and I'd advise people to look elsewhere.

Mr. Paul was running the place on his own and gave us superb service. The beds were comfortable and the views were lovely. Our bathroom hadn't been cleaned when we checked in, the TVs didn't work, and WiFi was only available in the lobby. Without Mr. Paul, I'd have rated the stay three stars.

Paul was attentive and worked hard, and his cooking was so good we'd recommend eating there. We had the best hospitality of our whole time in Sri Lanka. The terrace has amazing views and the location is quite central. We'd happily stay again if we return to Kandy. Highly recommended.

The room the caretaker gave us was awful, and its broken blinds meant my partner and I had no privacy. Laundry wasn't done, and he wasted time. No food was served because, as I saw it, he had other white guests to look after. I felt that if you're not white, you won't get good service, while white guests will have a good time. The caretaker kept complaining about politics while I was on holiday. I cut my trip short and left.
