JJ's Hostel Mirissa

The birthday surprise was a real highlight: the staff brought out a cake and sang with the friends I’d made there. Thank you! We stayed three nights because the place was so relaxed, social and spacious. There’s loads of room outside and in the common areas for breakfast or hanging out, plus a rooftop with pool tables. The beds were really comfortable, the showers looked great and everything was clean. We booked two tours through the hostel at fair prices. The whale watching tour especially seemed ethical, with clear respect for the animals. I’d definitely recommend this hostel.

I loved the breakfast, especially the fruit plate and smoothie. Try the smoothie! The hostel was very clean, and it was clear they do a deep clean, including the pool and shared kitchen. I enjoyed the yoga too, though the experience depends on which teacher is there. I stayed in the clean, pleasant Female 8- Bed dorm, with curtains, two showers with enough changing space and one toilet. They gave me a towel and changed the sheets every two days. It’s close to the main road but far enough away that I wasn’t disturbed. The vibe is more laid-back than party focused, with guests of mixed ages. There’s also an amazing rooftop with a pool table.

The third floor is a lovely place to relax, with a pool table and lots of games, and the hostel is within walking distance of the beach, food spots and shops. The layout feels spacious and well thought out, and the beds were really comfortable. The bathrooms need some attention: there was a slight smell, and I saw a cockroach one night. Cleanliness in that area could be better. Apart from that, everything else was great.

I stayed four nights in a private room and loved the hostel. Breakfast comes with the private rooms and was quite good. After two nights, they came to clean the room and change the linens. There’s also a shared kitchenette if you want to cook something.
