Sunbeam Beach Resort

We booked Sunbeam for two nights and wound up staying seven. Room 405 was spacious and clean, the bed was the best part, and the ocean view was superb. They brought complimentary water bottles every day, and the hotel had everything we needed. The staff welcomed us warmly, the Wi-Fi was fast, and the beach and money exchange were there. They also arranged an awesome whale-watching tour and an airport taxi that cost less than many other options in Mirissa. We’ll be back soon, lots of love from Liam and me! We checked out a day early and stopped eating the board on the second day because we didn’t trust the kitchen hygiene. They said they’d refund us if we left our rooms early, which we did, but then refused to return any money. Plain dishonest. The toilet gave off a horrible sewage smell that spread into the room. Wi-Fi was poor, and we had to keep asking for the room to be cleaned and for towels, which staff did grudgingly. The shower seemed designed by someone who never bathes. The mini fridge switched off when we left the room. Untrained staff, and a health hazard. January 2014

Grilled seafood was available at night, cheap and delicious. The balcony had quite a good view, and Mirissa beach was very close. The breakfast was okay, though the toilet had an unpleasant smell. The room was spacious and good value compared with the previous hotels I’d stayed in. The manager was kind and hardworking.

The best parts were the fruit at breakfast and the Wi-Fi, probably the strongest we had during our whole time in Sri Lanka. The room was somewhat dirty, though, and the bathroom drain smelled awful. They asked us to pay in advance on arrival, which was a first for me. Breakfast was fruit, toast with butter and jam, and tea or coffee. The coffee was terrible. Sometimes there were omelettes and dry sausages too. We had several power cuts, so the Wi-Fi went out, the elevator stopped, and our room was completely dark. Breakfast is on the sixth floor, while the elevator only reaches the fifth. At one point we got out on the wrong floor by mistake, unlocked a door and went into the wrong room before realizing.
